Roots of the Earth amazon tour
Our "Roots of the Earth" project is set up in the Madre de Dios region, Manu district, in Maloca Aguanos community where we are making medicinal plants’ garden and where we dedicate ourselves to local agriculture and the community "Teparo". A private reserve is located in the Cultural Zone of Manu National Park, a primary forest area populated by several ethnic groups and with an incredible biodiversity of flora and fauna. In the private area we have a "Collpa" (place where tapiris, capibara, wild pigs and birds gather to feed on clay; they feed on clay from which they assimilate minerals and important salts that facilitate the digestion of seeds and fruits) We need to build observation posts to investigate and study animal movements.
According to a working calendar, volunteers will normally be employed from 4 to 6 hours five days a week, participating in all the activities involved in the project, such as planting trees and medicinal plants, opening new paths or cleaning up existing paths. Sometimes, it starts early in the morning and you rest during the hottest hours and at sunset it's nice to relax. During leisure time we will go hiking to see animals and giant trees, visit indigenous communities to learn their cultures and traditions. After dinner you will be able to take a night walk to listen to the wonderful music of nature by watching frogs, tarantula, caiman and insects. On rainy days you will be able to take advantage of working with local material such as seeds, leaves, bamboo, wood.
We are an Italian-Peruvian couple with a 3 year old boy. With the project "Roots of the Earth" the volunteer will have the opportunity to know and live the Amazon in a direct and economic way.
We will stay in tents at fields, with a roof (Maloca), completely immersed in nature with basic conditions, which further increases the charm of the project and the uniqueness of the places. In this area there are no tropical diseases such as malaria, yellow fever or dengue.
Among the things we recommend taking for the trip are: lightweight clothing, long sleeve shirts, hat, sunscreen, insect repellent and torch.
We request a donation of 35 daily soles per person as aid for the project.
